Suspension Geometry - Premier/Data Version

Home ] Up ] Special Analysis ] Tire Deflection ] Ackerman Analysis ] Swaybar Analysis ]

The Premier / Data version allows the user to load a lap of data including suspension travel information and then have the indicated position. This capability can even be animated to show chassis movement through a turn

The Premier / Data version of the program was introduced in December of 2001 and won the Award for best new technical product at the Autosport Engineering Trade Show in January of 2002.

The program will accept data from Corsa and Edge data acquisition systems. It will accept Matlab or ASCII files created by other data acquisition systems. WinGeo3 provides ample opportunity to tune the data to match the suspension program. For instance, the program allows for spring, shock and data potentiometer as separate parts of the suspension. If the user specifies that the onboard data is data pot travel then the program computes the ride and roll position that yields the desired data pot travel values.

The program will also solve for a desired steering angle. If the data specifies a 3-degree steering angle then the program will determine the steering input corresponding to 3-degrees of steer on the right front wheel.

The screen above shows the front suspension (push-rod with a U-bar type anti-roll bar and a third spring) and a Truck-arm (stock car) rear suspension. The map of Mid-Ohio shows the position of the car on the overall track map as well as the turn map.

The user can operate this function like a VCR with Fast-forward, Forward, Pause, Reverse and Rewind buttons. The user can also click on any point on either map and see the suspension parameters at that point. This provides simple yet effective control of the program.
